I can’t believe it is already May! There are so many exciting things happening this month, the first of which is being finished with classes. Finals are next week so I’ve been putting in 14 hour work days (not fun at all), but the end is in sight! Here are some fun reads and finds to help get you through the week:
1.Striped Flats. These flats are adorable and would make the perfect addition to any shoe lover’s collection! To make it even better, they come in larger sizes so that even those of us with larger feet can enjoy.
2. Do horses in the Kentucky Derby even know they’re racing? With the Kentucky Derby quickly approaching, this article helps readers understand what goes on in a horse’s head as they are running.
3.Pineapple Appetizer Plates. With summer right around the corner, these appetizer plates are the perfect addition to any summer party!
4. Gilmore Girls Quiz. Since I just finished binge-watching Gilmore Girls, I had to post this quiz! Take a study break and see how close you were paying attention!
5.Lobster Leggings. These leggings may be the cutest things I’ve ever seen! I think they will end up being a “being done with finals” present to myself (:
6. Pineapple Tote. If you can’t already tell, I love pineapple prints! This tote would make the perfect pool bag!
7. White Dress. For those who are required to wear white dresses for graduation (whether high school or college), but don’t want to spend a fortune on a dress that will be worn only once (and isn’t your wedding dress), this dress is for you!
8. Cheetah Cubs. The Cincinnati Zoo has cheetah cubs that I cannot wait to go see! Head to the Cincinnati Zoo to see all of the zoo babies. Here is an adorable picture of one:
I had my first riding lesson in 3 years yesterday and it was amazing! My new instructor is great and I remembered a lot more than I thought I would. I am very sore today, but I am very happy with my lesson!
Today I am wearing one of my favorite combos: navy blue, white, and pink. This is probably the color combo that I wear the most during the summer, and I am always looking for more pieces to add to my wardrobe!
I’m also wearing some of my favorite bracelets from Alex and Ani! I got my Cincinnati Reds bracelet a few years back once I actually started watching baseball (and enjoying it). After my horse, Lucky, died my parents got me this four leaf clover bracelet to remind me of all my happy times with him. My favorite one though is my “Sisters Forever” bracelet that I got from my little sister (although she’s not so little anymore!). It’s probably one of the sweetest things I have ever gotten and every time I wear it, I smile and think about how lucky I am to have such sweet siblings!
This week has been busy, but in an amazing and exciting way! I have began volunteering at a therapeutic riding farm, been studying for my big genetics exam tonight, have picked up a minor, and am going to start riding again! I am so excited to start riding horses again because they have always been such a large part of my life, and these past two and a half years without riding have been difficult. When I am riding, all my stress floats away and I can’t help but smile. In honor of my exciting news, here is a picture of me from the old days when I first started riding (I was 4 years old):
On a completely different note, I realized that I have not been wearing much color lately (as you can see in my outfit from today), which is very unlike me. I decided to add some color to my look by painting my nails. I used Salley Hansen’s Miracle Gel Polish in the color “Mad Women”, which you can get here. I’ve had it on for almost a week now and it hasn’t really chipped at all!
I paired a simple T-shirt from Banana Republic (not sold anymore, but this one is similar) with dark wash skinny jeans, and flats by Christian Siriano for Payless (These are quickly becoming one of my favorite pairs of shoes. They aren’t for sale anymore, but this pair is similar).
With the semester 2/3 of the way over, I am crazily trying to make plans for winter break. I have almost 6 weeks off of school and it is the perfect time to get more shadowing experience with a veterinarian. Winter break is prime time for an internship because even with doing a 3 week internship, it still leaves 3 weeks to celebrate the holidays with family. I am going to put in some hours at work (I work at a small animal emergency hospital) and have found an equine veterinarian to shadow. A variety of experience is always helpful when applying to vet school, plus it’s really fun to be around and work with other animals than cats and dogs. Since I have spent 13 years around horses, I already have an equine background, but it can never hurt to get more experience! As a student who has shadowed many veterinarians over the years, I encourage all pre-vet college students and even middle school (that’s when I started!) and high school students who are interested in becoming a veterinarian, to reach out and contact their local vet. Veterinarians are normally more than happy to help students out and to have you shadow them because they know what the process is like and they want to help!
