Finds of the Week: 4/21/16

Happy Thursday everyone! I hope everyone is having a great week. I’ve been busy studying for my last two exams of the semester before finals and trying to enjoy the beautiful weather! Here are some of my favorite finds/ articles of the week:

1.New 20 Dollar Bills. Most of you have probably already heard about this, but new $20 bills are being made with Harriet Tubman’s face on them. In addition, other bills will have pictures of women as well. I think this is very cool! Check out this article to learn more.

2.Monogrammed Linens. This Etsy shop has the most beautiful monogrammed linens. From pillow shams to cocktail napkins, they have it all!

3.  Face Masks. I just read this article from College Fashion about the best face masks for all types of skin. I have dry skin and face masks tend to dry my face out even more, so I can’t wait to try out the masks that they recommend for dry skin!

4. Robotic Horse Lift. Researchers in Saskatchewan are working on developing a robotic lift to help horses recover after fracturing limbs. Many horses can’t make it through recovery since they are so large and often develop secondary problems, so this has the potential to save many lives. Read more about this innovation here.

5. Here is a cute foal to make your Thursday a little brighter!

Productive Sundays

My favorite Sundays are the ones where I am able to get ahead with my work for the week and just do some general cleaning (sometimes it’s emotional cleansing and sometimes it’s cleaning the bathroom). It is a great start to my week and makes me feel refreshed and ready to take on Monday. This Sunday was one of my productive ones, I made pancakes for breakfast (with my new batter dispenser), got ahead on my readings for the week, finished my lab report due on Thursday, and wrote in happiness journal for the first time in months.

I’m sure you are wondering, what is a happiness journal? Well, it is something I started doing two years ago. Every day I write down at least 5 things that made me happy that day. Sometimes they are as simple as writing about how beautiful the day was, but my favorite things to include are specific conversations that I had with people and why they were special. When I’m having a bad day or week, I just read through and see what I wrote about and it immediately makes me feel better. It gets you in a good habit of finding happy things, even in the sad moments, and makes you more thankful for the things that you often take for granted (like beautiful spring days!). I highly suggest doing this for anyone who wants to be a little happier! It only takes about 5 minutes a day and it really has made me into a happier, more thankful person.

On a side note, if you love reading and want to be happier, I highly suggest that you read The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. Here is a link to her website if you want to find out more about it!

Julia

Productive Sundays

Outfit of the Day: Lilac Sweater

It seems that mother nature has decided to give Oxford a temporary break on the super cold temperatures and dreary skies, and I am ecstatic! I’m ready for winter to be over and spring to be here! I celebrated the warmer weather by wearing a lilac sweater, cream vest, tortoise shell monogram necklace, and brown booties (that put me at 6 feet tall!). I never knew how much use that I’d get out of my vests when I bought them in the fall, but they have become a staple in my wardrobe! I suggest stocking up in several colors when you find a vest you like because you never know if you’ll be able to find it again later or if it’ll still be in stock.

Shop the look:

  1. Lilac Sweater. I got mine at Old Navy last year, but this one is similar.
  2. Cream Vest. This is the one that I’m wearing, but it’s almost sold out so here is another one!
  3. Monogram necklace. Mine was a gift, but this one is only $12!!!
  4. Brown booties. My mom gave me these so I don’t know where they came from, but here are some similar ones.

OOTD: Bow Edition

It is no secret that I love bows! I love making them for my friends and my little sisters. Today I wanted to add a little extra pink to my outfit! I wore a white sweater, pink necklace from Zealand Boutique, dark wash skinny jeans, a pink bow (made by me), and L.L. Bean Boot Mocs.

Handmade bows make a great gift and they are pretty simple to make. I learned how to make them using this Youtube video!

Outfit of the Day: Teal Sweater Edition

I think I only own one “green” sweater, and it’s not technically green, it’s teal. I will definitely be looking for a green sweater to join my collection this winter! It was so cold today that it was hard to find motivation to wear “real” clothes. My initial instinct this morning was to wear leggings, but I’m glad I decided to put on some jeans and a sweater. I ended up wearing a teal sweater, cream vest, black monogram necklace, and dark wash jeans and black flats (not pictured).

Like what you see? Here is where I got my outfit:

Vest: from Old Navy. Sweater: I got this sweater a couple years ago so it’s no longer for sale, but here is a similar one. Monogram necklace: from Christy Treasure Box on Etsy.

Julia

Photo Shoot

To celebrate a beautiful fall day Thomas (my boyfriend) and I went out for a photo shoot by the pond at my apartment complex. It ended up being the perfect scenery! I wore a red plaid flannel shirt, this navy blue vest, dark wash skinny jeans, this Marley Lilly necklace,  and these LL Bean Boot Moccasins. Here are some of my favorite pictures:

Outfit of the Day: Neutrals

I love wearing color, so it is rare that I exit my apartment without some pop of color. Today I decided that I would challenge my regular routine and wear all neutrals. This outfit was super comfortable and perfect for wearing during my exam and all my studying. I will definitely be wearing some color tomorrow though!
